Last year Helsinki attracted tourists in particular from Japan and China (2014-03-28)

In 2013, the accommodation services of Helsinki had about 3.264.000 overnight stays. Russians were the  largest international traveller group, followed by Germans, Brits, Swedes and Americans.

The number of overnight stays was three percent less than the previous year, which was mostly due to the decrease in the amount of international business travelling caused by the recession.

However, the share of Japanese and Chinese travellers increased strongly. The number of Japanese visitors increased by over 20 percent and the number of Chinese by almost 11 percent. If their growth continues, Japan will reach the level of Americans and become the fifth largest visitor country this year.

In 2013, records were broken in flight and ship traffic. The passenger numbers at Helsinki-Vantaa airport increased up to 15.3 million passengers, the passenger numbers of Helsinki’s ports to 11.6 million passengers and the number of international cruise passengers to 420,000 passengers.

It is estimated that the total number of overnight stays in Helsinki will start to increase again this year.
